Ernst Guenter Afting

Ernst Guenter Afting is the vice-chairperson of Intercell's supervisory board and has been a member of our supervisory board since February 1999. He studied Chemistry and Medicine at the Universities of Muenster and Freiburg and was until 1984 tenured professor and head of the Department of Protein - Chemistry in the Institute of Biochemistry at the University of Goettingen. From 1984 to 1989, he was appointed as a board member of the Behring Werke in Marburg, a subsidiary of the Hoechst AG, Frankfurt, responsible for their worldwide R & D. 

In 1989, Ernst Guenter Afting was promoted to the head of worldwide research of the Pharma division of Hoechst AG and appointed as a member of the divisional pharma board in Frankfurt. In 1991, he became chairman and CEO of the Pharma division of Hoechst AG in Frankfurt and in 1993 president and CEO of Roussel Uclaf in Paris. From 1995 to 2005, Ernst Guenter Afting was president and CEO of the GSF – National Research Center for Environment and Health – in Munich, one of the biggest governmental research organizations in Health research in Germany. 

Ernst Guenter Afting is an industrial advisor to venture capital firms and is supervisory board member of several biotech companies in Europe and the USA.
